Joan Burke Obituary

Joan A. Burke, 85 of West Monroe, New York died Saturday, February 14, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family and K9 companion, Pinky. Joan was born October 9, 1940, in Syracuse, New York, daughter of the late Clifford and Gertrude Baker Welch. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by sons Stephen Burke and Jeffrey Burke; brother Clifford Welch; sisters, Janet Welch and Linda Welch.

Mrs. Burke was a loving and caring mother, she was also a dedicated 42-year employee of the Syracuse Newspapers, starting as a coffee runner working her way through the ranks retiring as the Circulation and Distribution Manager. Joan was an avid card player and played in many pitch leagues. She was known for having “your ace”. The players referred to her as “Ma”. She was also known as “Lil’ Gram” at her grandchildren’s sporting events. Joan also loved outdoor gardening and took great pride in their growth and beauty.

Surviving are a daughter, Lori (Pete) Savino; brother Richard (Dorothy) Welch; three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, with services to follow immediately at Traub Funeral Home, Inc., 684 North Main Street, Central Square, New York. Burial will be in Jacksonville Cemetery in the Spring.
